Sharing A Spirit of Celebration

Annie invited us to attend Discovery Baptist Church on Good Friday. Taraz joined us, and we attended an evening service in the new sanctuary. Annie and Daisy sang in the choir.

Pastor Mark did a chalk drawing during some of the hymns. He used fluorescent chalk that glowed when a blue-light was shown on the drawing.

George and Tim, Annie's dad, chatted about the ceremony of communion, which was offered to the congregation. Tim said that he baked unleavened bread for the communion on a stone in his oven at home.
This is Taraz, Annie, Daisy, and Daisy's friend, Galilee.

Hannah is one of Pastor Suko's daughters. She and Annie are best friends.

I felt privileged to attend this service in the new sanctuary, and grateful that I could share in the spirit of celebration. I've attended Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations at Discovery Baptist Church, and also participated in the Women's Bible Study group. Discovery Baptist Church is located in the countryside, outside of the community of Gig Harbor. It reminds me of the little country churches of yesterday, with all the families intimately connected with one another in service and fellowship. There is a very sustaining grace that is imparted through the leadership there, through Pastor Suko and his wife Nancy. I'm glad Annie, my son Rue, Annie's parents Tim and Kathy, and my grand-daughter Daisy have such a sweet place for worship and fellowship.

Pastor Suko says, "The name Discovery was chosen for historical reasons. In 1792 Captain George Vancouver sailed the H.M.S. Discovery into history as he entered Puget Sound in search of the legendary Northwest Passage. Instead, he discovered one of the largest natural harbors in the world. Here ships could seek shelter from storms and replenish. A church, much like a harbor, is a place where people can find shelter from the storms of life, the forgiveness and grace of God and direction for their future. Therefore, the name Discovery was adopted with this in mind."
