Our youngest son, Rahmat, came over yesterday between shifts, and we visited - it was his 23rd birthday.
We sat out on the patio (he squatted), and talked about the camping trip - he was unable to come up to Lena Lake with Ruhiyyih and Brynn on Sunday because he was the 'person on call for that day'. He had to wait until 3:00 p.m. to see if he was needed, and the girls left at 2:00 p.m. When he called his work at 3:00, he was not needed. DARN!
He was so disappointed - I would be too. Part of our celebration was due to so many members of our family having birthdays - and Rahmat's was one of them. And, his sister had flown in from Virginia for the weekend.....sometimes life just seems downright unfair.
But, he said, "Work is like the family - when you are needed, you go. That's just the way it is." What a gift it was, to hear him say that.
